OWEN COUNTY EMS OPERATIONAL INFORMATION
Annual Emergency Responses: 1900
Annual Emergency Transports: 950
Less than 3% non-emergent transports.
No transports to Cincinnati, Louisville, or Lexington without approval.
28% annual Air Medical flight requests for emergency responses.
Shift coverage begins at 0800 and shift times are based on a 24/48 and broken into twelve (12) hour segments (0800-2000 & 2000-0800).
Operations may consist of two (2) ambulances and/or ALS Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) (ALS x 2, or ALS/BLS, or BLS/BLS with ALS QRV, or ALS & ALS QRV, etc.).
Pilot programs under development regarding various operational, scope of practice and community engagement activities.
Department staffing general consists of a Paramedic(s) (EMT-P), EMT-Advanced (EMT-A), and EMT-Basic (EMT-B) personnel who provide emergency and non-emergency service 24/7.
In addition to emergency transportation which medical necessity, all patients requiring emergency transport shall be transported by ground to the nearest appropriate medical facility. All LVAD and specialty care patient's which can not receive air medical support, shall be transported to the affiliated facility by ground. Emergency transportation requests which do not meet medical necessity for stretcher transports may be referred to Owen County Public Transit for disposition.
OCEMS provides limited scheduled non-emergent transports within the region. All non-emergency transportation requests are managed by OCEMS management staff and shall meet operational requirements prior to acceptance. Non-emergency transportation requests which do not meet medical necessity for stretcher transports are referred to Owen County Public Transit.
Owen County EMS provides community organizations and families with instructional courses related to First-Aid, CPR, and Stop-the-Bleed programs.
